Diagnostics
Naturopathic medicine uses a variety of testing to locate the cause of various disorders. Conventional blood tests are used along alternative forms of testing. Alternative testing is highly specific and sensitive, a benefit in finding the subtle and hidden causes of imbalance.
Specialty Testing
ENVIRONMENTAL TOXIN TESTING
Indicated for those experiencing chemical sensitivity, fatigue, numbness, tingling, poor memory or concentration, and poor resolution to typical health problems. Especially indicated for those with occupational exposure,
Environmental Pollutants Panel: Toxins tested are xylene, benzene, toluene, styrene, trimethylbenzene, paraben, phthalate
(This specific phthalate is found in over 70% of commonly used cosmetics) Urine test.
Organic Acids Testing
Urine Toxic Metals: Urine provocative testing with DMSA or DMPS to analyze for levels of lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury and aluminum.
SERUM
High Sensitivity C-Reactived Protein: A hallmark of inflammation and tissue damage. Used to identify and track infections and diseases that cause inflammation such as Rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, cardiovascular disease and others.
VAP: Comprehensive Lipid Profile
Thyroid Panel: TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Anti-TG and anti-TPO antibodies.
Estrogen Metabolism: Assesses 2 and 16 hydroxyestrogen balance.
Food Allergy: 96 Item IgG Food Panel OR 95 Item IgG Vegetarian Food panel fingerstick)
IgG Mini Inhalant Allergy: 16 item Panel for grasses, indoor pollutants, and molds.
Lyme Disease: Igenex - Western Blot, PCR, Fish
URINE
Organic Acids: Markers of neurotransmitter metabolism, detoxification and bacterial origin, vitamin co-factors deficient, as well as glycolysisis, citric acid, fatty acid and ketone metabolites.
Bone Resorption Assessment: Assesses rate of current bone loss. Useful in monitoring effectiveness of osteoporosis treatment.
STOOL
Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis: Evaluates digestion and absorption, bacterial balance and metabolism, yeast and immune status. For patients with irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion, malabsorption and other GI related problems.
Parasitology x 3: Evaluates stool for presence of parasites using three days of stool samples.
Microbiology Analysis: Evaluates for beneficial flora, imbalanced flora, yeast and pathogenic bacteria.
Bacterial Overgrowth of Small Intestine Breath Test: Detects bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. For patients complaining of chronic symptoms of maldigestion and malabsorption, including bloating, gas diarrhea, irregular bowels and abdominal pain.
Celiac/Gluten Intolerance: Tissue Transglutaminase Antibody,
Anti-Gliadin Antibodies IgG and IgA,
Helicobacter Pylori: Tests for presence of helicobacter pylori, a bacteria often present in ulcers and acid reflux. More effective if used with serum antibody testing.
SALIVA
D-Arabinitol: A metabolite of candida albicans.
HORMONE TESTING
Women’s Hormonal Profile: Analyzes either 11 or 18 saliva samples over a 28 day period for the levels of B-estradiol, progesterone and testosterone. This test is useful in providing clues in treating migraines, menstrual irregularities, infertility, endometriosis, breast cancer, osteoporosis, perimenopause, depression and PMS.
Menopause Profile: Examines saliva samples to determine levels of estradiol, estrone, estriol, progesterone and testosterone.
Adrenal Stress Profile: 4 cortisol and DHEA. For patients with chronic fatigue, anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, or high blood pressure.
NEUROTRANSMITTER TESTING
Imbalances of our neurotransmitters and hormones are often the underlying causes of: depression, anxiety, attention issues, fatigue, weight and appetitie control, libido, insomnia, headaches, PMS, and pain. GABA, cortisol, serotonin, epininephrine, norepinephrine, dopamine, glycine, taurine, histamine and glutamate are assessed via urine prior to beginning amino acid therapy.
